Nano Update Week Two

This week of Nano was a little slow going.

My outline in this section needed a lot of reworking, and some scenes needed to either be reordered or removed entirely.

So, while last week I was ahead in my word count, I am about a day behind this week.

I have every faith that I will catch up within a day or so, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t disheartening.

I’m glad that I’m moving out of this part of my novel, though, because I know the next section is more fixed.

I write much faster when I am more sure of what needs to happen in a scene or what needs to be set up.

I’m also going to try to edit less, which should help a lot both with the speed of getting things out and with keeping the word count up. Last week, I ended up cutting a lot of words that would have prevented me from getting behind.

Will that save me a lot of time in the editing process? Yes. But this whole month is about getting out of my head and just getting the words on the page.

Drafting and editing are for another day, as tempting as it is to get them done now.

I won’t let the perfect be the enemy for this month. I will just get it done.

I know that the editing process will result in my deleting a lot of my words and lowering the length of the book overall, but I think it’s better that I do that at another time.

I’m hopeful that I will not only catch up in the next day or so but also get ahead again.
