Quite the Travel Saga

Sometimes travelling is more than just getting on a plane and going where you want to go. Sometimes it’s a saga.
Today was one such day.
I won’t call it a nightmare because I’ve defiantly had worse. But this journey has been quite an affair.
For starters, it was rescheduled twice. I was meant to leave at the end of January, and it’s now it’s already a week into February, and I just got home.
Even on the day of my flight, there were changes. My flight to the UK ended up being delayed by six hours, which meant that I was going to miss my connecting flight to EDI by hours. The airline automatically changed my flight to the next available to the “nearby” airport in Glasgow. Because the second leg of my flight was with another airline, AA couldn’t help me to change my flight. So I checked my bags and got on the flight, trusting that I would be able to get things sorted with the second flight when I got to LHR.
I get to LHR and am told that they can get me on a direct flight to EDI - in six hours.
A twenty-pound voucher doesn’t go very far in Heathrow.
Six hours later and I was finally on the flight. It was cramped and uncomfortable, but I didn’t care because I was finally headed home.
I thought that my travel woes were over when we landed.
Silly me.
I waited at the luggage claim until all the bags had been picked up.
No sign of mine.
Worried that my bags were in Glasgow, I pulled out my phone to see where the AirTags had them.
They were still in America.
They hadn’t even made it onto the first flight despite the six-hour delay giving them plenty of time to get there.
I have been flying since I was quite young; I’ve probably been on hundreds of planes at this point. This is the first time I’ve had someone lose my luggage.
Thankfully the people who work at Edinburgh Airport are always amazing. Not only did they fill out all the forms and arrange for my bags to get on the next flight to me, but they also talked me through how to file a claim with the airlines for compensation.
It was nearly the next day when I finally got home.
I don’t think I have ever been so happy to see my own bed.
I felt like I went on an epic quest and fought against the odds to be able to come home.
But that might just be the sleep deprivation talking.
I’m going to sleep for a week.
