Side Quest!

So my friend Meghan has come to visit me.

She’s been saying she would since before I moved here, and she finally has!

It’s her first trip out of the country, and what did she do? She scheduled a work outing right in the middle of it.

She works at a children’s museum in America, so she was excited to visit the UK’s only dedicated children’s museum. Halifax was not on my list of places I wanted to visit in the UK, but it was an awesome side quest.

As all good quests go, there were decided ups and downs to the visit. The journey there was - interesting, and the journey back was very - eventful. I feel like we had to earn our quest, that we had to go on quite the journey to appreciate our time there. I also learned on this trip that I have become very spoiled by Scottish water.

Halifax itself is lovely. We went through the markets and the charity shops and were able to check out the Piece Hall, where there was an abundance of small independent shops and artisans.

The children’s museum was also amazing.

You don’t normally get to go in as an adult unless you are accompanying a minor. Which is understandable. I was still glad to run around and play like a kid. I think that if I had actually been a child growing up going to that museum, I could have spent whole days playing in the mock highstreet in the recreation of the Victorian row house.

It was a wonderful day that was nearly ruined by our train being cancelled at the connecting point, and then unconcealed, and then we were put on another train.

Uk rail, right?

But we’re home again.

We survived.

All in all a very successful side quest.
