When You're Mad at Netflix (Again)

Years ago, I got mad at Netflix for losing the rights to my favourite series. It’s no fun to chase down the movie or tv show you want to watch only to discover it’s on a new streaming platform. If I was to have subscriptions to all the screening services, then I would end up spending nearly a hundred a month and still not owning anything and having to hunt down what I want to watch.

So a few years ago, I built out my purchase library using what is now AppleTV. I have a large number of films, and most of the tv shows that I want to watch there. I would also use my friend’s Netflix account for shows I didn’t already have.

But Netflix is cracking down on password sharing.

And they have been pretty abusive to the creators that make their shows.

So my friend has dropped them.

And I’m not going to give them any of my money.

We’ve decided instead to share my Apple account and build out the library again.

In the last five years, several new shows and movies have come out that I want to add to my library. I have also discovered or rediscovered old shows I would like to have.

So both of us are budgeting about what we would have been spending on streaming services to get any shows we want but don’t already have.

At the moment, I am focused on getting some of the feel-good shows that I love, like Baby Daddy. Nothing too serious or dramatic. I want something light and fun.

It’s so nice to have something for any mood I might be in without having to go and hunt it down or turn on my VPN.

I’m pleased that I won’t be giving them any more of my money. I can stand with my friends in unions that are currently striking by spending my money in a way that will pay them fair residuals. And I will be able to share my library with one of my dearest friends.
