Lia Griffith Review - Update

I have been working on some flowers for my felt wreath so I can have a nice spring wreath. In the past, many of my felt projects were found on the website LiaGriffith.com. They had a large variety of projects that they were updating every month. So, I decided to revisit the website to see if they had some new flowers I could make. The website had changed a lot, and I was very disappointed in the direction it seemed to be going.

I wrote a review of the Lia Griffith craft subscription a few years ago. At that point, I had both an annual and a monthly subscription and thought that the price for the website was entirely reasonable if not a good deal.

I have changed my mind.

Partly because they have changed their prices, and the lowest charge is now $14 a month for what used to be $10. A higher subscription tier, too, puts some features behind a paywall. They are also featuring old projects as their monthly feature with greater regularity, so there is no value added that would be expected for the higher price; if anything, the value has gone down for the monthly subscription. It used to be that every month, there would be eight to nine new projects out of the dozen that they featured. There would also be some SVG files and graphics for the month. The combination of new things meant that you always got good value for the money you were spending, even at a higher price point than other craft services. However, the number of new projects was decreasing as time went on, and they didn’t even bother to add better instruction booklets to the old projects or do anything to update them. The SVG files were repeating, too.

But the thing that clinched it for me was that the projects are no longer original to the site. While it might be their interpretation of a flower or an animal, most of the patterns and instructions on the site can be found elsewhere for cheaper. It seems like the people at Lia Griffith are running out of ideas. There are still some things they offer that are unique to the site, but this month, there was only one project that I couldn’t find a nearly identical version of on Pinterest or Etsy for much cheaper.

Amazon has dozens of books featuring instructions for hundreds of felt flowers for less than the cost of a single month of membership on Lia Griffith. I don’t know that I will be going back to Lia Griffith again. I’ll check back in a year to see if things have improved, but for now, I would say that it’s massively overpriced.

If you like what they have to offer, most of the time, you can find something similar for free or for a more affordable price somewhere else online. You just need to spend a bit of time googling. Bonus: if you buy off smaller artists, you can support them and save money simultaneously.
